Return of the Buff Weka

By Nadine Cagney

Intended for 11-13 year olds, this book can be enjoyed by younger children and also used as an initial research resource for teenagers.

"Return of the Buff Weka" is a story based on fact about the 30 Buff Weka translocated from Chatham Island in 2002 and their survival on Te Peka Karaka, Lake Wanaka.

The story is written in the first person, present tense and uses the routine and job tasks of the DOC ranger in charge of the weka to describe the bird and the environment.  The story is supported by fact boxes at the bottom of each page and illustrated with colour photographs.

The book is well suited as a reading and research resource in schools, libraries and homes.  Return of the Buff Weka is a timely publication for all people interested in regional conservation and environment.  It is also an excellent souvenir of our local region and country.
