Key industries on the Chatham Islands are farming, fishing and tourism, with a particular emphasis on eco-tourism. Chatham Island Enterprise Trust owns and operates the island's infrastructure companies, including:

Chatham Islands Management Limited

The Chatham Islands Enterprise Trust Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 24th September 2009 in the Waitangi Hall commencing at 7.00pm. The AGM is an opportunity for the Trust to report on the Trust activities for the previous year and to provide comment on future Trust activities. Members of the community are encouraged to attend and to ask questions they may have regarding the Trust and its Subsidiary Companies.

A reminder to everyone that the nominations for the Community and Enterprise Awards close on Friday 17th September 2009 at 5.00pm. The following is the criteria for each award:

Chatham Islands Enterprise Trust - Enterprise Award

  • Chatham resident/Chatham based
  • Owned/managed/operated by a Chatham resident/s
  • A relatively new venture/service which has been operational for less than 24 months
  • Considered to be enterprising, that is, someone who has taken the initiative to develop an opportunity

Chatham Islands Enterprise Trust - Community Award

  • Chatham resident/Chatham based
  • A voluntary not-for-profit organization
  • A service provider to the wider community
  • Working to improve the services they provide to the community

CHATHAM ISLANDS MANAGEMENT LIMITED

The Strategic Plan is now in its final draft and also the company Business Plans.  The community workshop was held on Thursday 25th June in the Waitangi Hall, Trustees presented the Strategic Plan to the community and feedback was noted and will be included in the final plan where they were felt appropriate.  Thank you to those members of the public who attended the meetings.  Provision was also made for those who wanted to make a written submission.

CI Council and CI Enterprise Trust representatives met with Government Officials in Wellington on 4 June 2009 to discuss the $20 million Infrastructure fund, infrastructure assets, future developments and the need to fund those developments at the time of writing there has been no response back from Government.  Trustees will be meeting with Annette King during her visit to the Island.
